One of my favorite patients, Keith Vantuono, running for Brick Memorial and then excelling at Rowan University, earned his way to a career in the biomedical field! Happy and proud for this one!!

“A stress fracture senior year of high school before the most important cross country season of high school gave me the opportunity to meet you and it opened my eyes to orthopedic medicine and biomedical engineering. I loved running and thought getting injured was the worst thing that could happen at the worst time of the year. It turned out to be some thing that made my life take a turn. I majored in biomedical engineering in college, and started my first job at Globus Medical as a mechanical testing engineer working on prototype devices. Now, from my memories of the OR with you, I finally accomplished my goal of becoming a medical device rep in spine. Just grateful for the support over these years from everyone and the opportunity you gave me to shadow surgeries back in high school before college!”

Who knew tap dancing was so hard on the sesamoid bones. Can easily see the comparison of the two bones- one lights up, the other dark and without a crack! Another tibial sesamoid fracture. 😩 8 weeks in and still not healed per this MRI. Bone Stim, continue boot, and wait or take it out? 🤔

Another plantar plate tear… the second picture shows the gap in the black line (capsule) of his second toe and where the injury and pain was felt by the patient. This patient presented for orthotics after being told he had a fracture in his small toe due to high arches (where he had no pain but an MRI suggested a stress fracture.) 4 weeks in a surgical boot he was told but still had pain under his second toe. Glad to offer a clear diagnosis and treatment plan :) #lookatthemri

Bracing for the weekend that was. Boat 🇺🇸, Jason Aldean, and peloton suffering (break from the usual 11 mile run) …. for the fight. ✊🏻 #USA

Symptomatic peroneal tubercle/trochlea. Eats away at the peroneal tendons causing significant and chronic discomfort and disability on the outside of the foot. Despite every non surgical modality to get this patient pain-free (outside of the office and inside the office) the jagged edge (spur) must go. Fortunately with a minimally invasive technique, the patient is walking nearly the same day, in shoes and walking by one month.

After four weeks, grade 3 stress fracture healed to be able to run 1 month out, and win the Olympics a short 2-3 months later. Worked for this one no named Olympic champion (😮‍💨 Matt Centrowitz) love the Centrowitz family @mgcentro @lacentro

Capsulitis of the second toe is THE most common condition I treat for the runners/active adults that have a bunion. The bunion doesn’t hurt but the consequence is stress to the second toe/ MPJ (knuckle). Normal bones of the joint outlined in black. Pathology in red, inflamed and torn plantar plate/capsule (should be black not white) along with a stress reaction in the base of the toe! Unfortunately, being in the boot for 8 weeks as prescribed by her previous Dr got this patient nowhere. Now improving with EPAT therapy and stem cell therapy. Can fix this 💪 with or without surgery

This is tenjet as seen under ultrasound being performed at the plantar fascia insertion.
I first release the plantar fascia- tight band needs release. Secondly, I perform tenjet as you see in video above. Hug the “spur” and clear it from damaged tissue and insertional bursitis. I free up the tissue so by the time I’m done, it feels like I’m passing through butter. Lastly, stem cell injection.
A year of agony and pain resolved. Partial tears don’t heal well. Complete the tear, get rid of damaged painful tissue. Let’s go!

Is it plica or is it the tendon tear causing this runner to be sidelined?! Most doctors fail to recognize plica syndrome but thankfully (or unthankfully as I know all too well what the condition is having experienced myself) I can identify and offer guidance. All three are on the windowsill for a reason. As endurance athletes, we depend on iron for proper delivery of oxygen to fuel our bodies for the activities and performances we desire. Studies show that in fact levels of vitamin d and b affect iron stores. Especially in the winter months, it is important to take vitamin d as being out in the sun during frigid conditions is not the most appealing. Fortunately bloodwork helps identify all levels to assess appropriate values for optimal performance. I recommend testing every season. #getyourscript #gettested #optimizeperformance #enduranceathletes
